After the release of the new iPhone 7 in September 2016, a lot of consumers are unsure if Apple has brought anything new to the table. However having said that, there's a lot of new hardware and software features that is included in this new smartphone as well as certain improvements from the previous generation of iPhone (iPhone 6/6S). In this article we will list a few features that iPhone 7 has, as well as our opinion on some of the big changes that has happened in this new iPhone.
So firstly we're going to list a few of the technical specification of this new iPhone in order to give you an idea on what it's all about.
Apple has kept the overall look of the iPhone to what they were in the 6 & 6S models. However, with a few internal tweaks, Apple has enabled the iPhone 7 to be somehow water resistance (not waterproof).
One of the biggest additions to the new iPhone is the water resistance feature. According to Apple, the iPhone seven is now water resistant for up-to 1 meter and can withstand water pressure for up-to 30 minutes.
The next biggest change in this iPhone, is the removal of the headphone jack, which is probably one of the biggest downsides of this iPhone. Instead of the headphone jack, users must now use the lighting connector for their headphones which causes problems for those who want to charge their phone and listen to music at the same time. Apple has also included a Lighting to 3.55 mm jack adaptor for those who want to use their own headphones with a audio jack connector. This however, does not solve the charging and listening to music at the same time issue. Third party companies have created a adapter which enables you to listen to music and charge at the same time, these however are not very cheap to buy.
Apple has added stereo speakers to the iPhone 7, which means the sound might not be as annoying as before and has a double output in terms of the sound volume. Apple has also introduced 'Airpots' which are basically wireless headphones. These headphones are sold separately and are very very very expensive and easy to lose.
The screen size is the same size as the previous generation of iPhone which was 4.7 inches by 5.5 inches. The brightness of this iPhone is 25% better than the previous generation, and the force touch (3D touch) technology can now respond much better to touch pressures or taps on the screen.
The biggest change to this iPhone is probably the home button. Apple has removed the clickable feature on the home button, instead it only senses pressure like the force touch technology. This is a big change and it's going to take some getting used to.
The front screen camera has had an upgrade from 5 Megapixels to 7 Megapixels. The main back screen has the same megapixels as the previous generations, however true flash tone has improved to 50% brighter flash than the iPhone 6S, the flash also adjusts automatically to the colour temperature of the picture scene which results in sharper and correct lit photos. The plus version of this iPhone (5.5 inch) has a second camera lens which allows user to zoom in 10 times more without losing picture quality.
The iPhone 7 comes in five different colours which are; Jet Black (Glossy Black), Black (Matt Black), Silver, Gold and Rose Gold. The jet black colour is the colour that Apple is featuring in its range of colours, this colour is only available to 128GB & 256GB of storage.
The storage options now start from 32GB, 128GB and 256GB. Apple has removed the 16GB and 64GB storage options.
The A10 fusion chip is the new processor that is built in the iPhone seven. Apparently it has double the performance speed of the iPhone 6 as well as 1 and 2 hours longer battery life than the iPhone 6s.
Overall we think that Apple has added some unusual features to this phone. The biggest advantages of this phone is probably the addition of the water resistance feature as well as the dual stereo speaker feature. Improvements on the brightness, camera and force touch technology are also great improvements from the previous generation of iPhone.
The biggest disappointment of the iPhone 7 was the loss of the headphone jack as well as the removal of the home button click function. Apple also didn't do their customers any favours by only including the dual camera on the plus version of the iPhone 7, considering that this is another one of their flagship phones, why should there be a distinction between iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus except for the screen size? Another downside to consider is that iPhone customers are not able to get the 32GB storage option on the jet black version.
