How to Back-Up Your Smartphone In Minutes

A lot of users tend to forget to back up their smartphones before they update their devices or wipe out their phones altogether. In this article we will show you how you can easily backup your data within the cloud (online storage) or on your laptop or desktop computers. The majority of smartphone users tend to use Apple or Android smartphone platform, so we will show the back up process for these two major platforms.


iPhone Backup:

iPhone iOS 8+ Backup Through iTunes:

  1. You need a laptop or computer that has iTunes installed.
  2. Switch on your computer system and open the iTunes application.
  3. Connect your iPhone to your computer or laptop through the sync cable.
  4. In iTunes, select your device (e.g. Johns iPhone).
  5. On the right hand side of the iTunes windows, navigate towards the ‘Backups’ section and click on ‘This Computer’, if you wish to encrypt your backup you can also click ‘Encrypt iPhone Backup’, you need to create a backup password and write it down somewhere or memorise it.
  6. You then finally click ‘Back Up Now’ once you have completed the backup settings in iTunes.
  7. The iPhone must be connected to the laptop or desktop computer in order for it to process and complete the backup.
  8. You can also check to see that your if your iPhone backup is stored in your computer by going to preferences on iTunes and then clicking the ‘devices’


iPhone Backup From iCloud:

If you have a monthly subscription with Apple’s monthly iCloud service, you will be able to backup your iPhone through the internet. All you need is your phone charged enough for backup as well as an internet connection and finally of course enough storage on your iCloud service (you can upgrade from the free monthly 5GB storage to a premium and paid monthly storage capacity starting from 50GB paid every month).

  1. From your iPhone go to ‘Settings’.
  2. Press the ‘iCloud’ Settings.
  3. Switch on ‘iCloud Drive’ if you want the the data within the apps to be back up as well.
  4. From ‘iCloud Drive’ you can choose which app data you would like iCloud to backup.
  5. Go back to ‘iCloud’ settings, navigate down, press on ‘Backup’.
  6. Switch on ‘iCloud Backup’ if you want iPhone to automatically backup your iPhone when it is charging and connected to Wi-Fi
  7. You then finally press ‘Back Up Now’ option. At this step, your iPhone will start to backup the features you chose for backup. You can leave the ‘Settings’ and do other tasks on the iPhone. Just make sure you have it connected to a internet connection and has enough charge for backup.


Android Backup:

Due to the large amount of brands using android platform. There a few ways in backing up your android device. For backing up data to PC or laptop computer, you must download your the manufacturers PC/MAC software suite and go through their step by step guide. But if you wish to back up your phone through your android device here is how to do it:

Backup Through Google Account: 

  1. Go to you devices ‘Settings’
  2. Then press ‘Accounts’, go to ‘Google’ and then select your google account.
  3. You can choose what you want to sync and backup by checking and unchecking the features listed on the screen.
  4. Once that is done, go back to settings, and then tap on ‘Backup & Reset’, make sure this option is switched on as well.

If you have the latest Android platform on your device, then it allows you to save much more content such as; games, custom settings, application data, photos and many more features.
